Sumter County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created on December 26, 1831. As of 2000, the population was 33,200. The 2005 Census Estimate shows a population of 32,912. The county seat is Americus, Georgia.
History
The County is named for Thomas Sumter, general in the American Revolutionary War and United States senator from the state of South Carolina.
