Wilkes County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 10,687. The 2005 Census Estimate shows a population of 10,457. The county seat is Washington, Georgia.
History Wilkes county is commonly referred to by locals and people around the state as "Washington-Wilkes", as both the county and the county seat are viewed as one entity. It is one of the original counties of Georgia, created February 5, 1777.
